After becoming a Christian you might find that you have doubts. Sometimes we doubt that we have been saved or are concerned that we have lost our salvation or that God will forgive us yet again for sinning. Below are principles the Bible teaches to help us never doubt our salvation again.
Some live in fear for years over the thought of loosing their salvation. This fear comes because we have a difficult time believing God would love us and save us even though we continue to sin against Him. We try to compensate by being good but when we fail we feel we do not deserve Gods forgiveness any longer and assume we have lost our salvation.
You can never be good enough or do enough for God to pay for your sins and because you can not earn your salvation you can not loose it.
I know This sounds harsh but the truth is you can never be good enough. When you came to Jesus it was because you realized there was nothing good in you, and you needed a savior, someone to bridge the gap between you and God.
Romans 3:12 says, “there is none good, not one” and Romans 3:23 says, “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.”
The reason Jesus died on the cross is to cover our sins because we can not on our own behalf change our sinful nature.
The devil will try to cause you to doubt your salvation, but if you continue to believe the sacrifice of Jesus covers your sin, you will be able to resist the temptation to worry about loosing your salvation.
After accepting God’s wonderful forgiveness for sins and we sin again, we sometimes can doubt if God will really forgive us again, but you can resist those thoughts and continue to believe with these verses.
Psalm 86:5 “For thou, Lord, art good, and ready to forgive; and plenteous in mercy unto all them that call upon thee.”
1 John 1:9 “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”
So the take-home lesson is this, that you believe in the word of God and place it in your mind so you are able to resist the temptation to doubt and continue to believe.
Father, help us to keep your word in our mind so we are not tempted to doubt. In the name of Jesus, amen
