Have you ever thought when God said all things will work for the good, He might mean good for someone else?
I was recently involved in a hit and run accident on my way to work. I am ok physically but spiritually I kept asking God what possible good could come of this. Every time something adverse happens I immediately quote Romans 8:28, “And we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.” Quoting this always helps me to come to grips with these kinds of situations and gives me peace.
As I contemplated why God would allow this I suddenly thought, what if the good was for someone else?
Think about it. Many of our government’s standards and laws are the result of someone’s tragic event. From the earliest traffic signals, impaired driving laws and the recent cell phone and texting laws, these all have worked to the good for us from another’s tragedy. In the verses surrounding this famous verse we see Paul say the sufferings of our flesh…this verse implies our life will not be problem free.
Even though I know the tragic event of Jesus being hung on a cross is for my benefit, I struggle to find how it worked for His good. God still has not told me why someone ran their car into me, so I choose to think it was for someone else’s good. If they had not hit me they might have killed someone else!
