What do you believe about the Bible, baptism, or the rapture? About the end times, the devil, heaven or hell? Why do you believe it? Do you believe in following Jesus because you have tried and proved Him or because it is a tradition in your family?
There was a woman, whom, when she cooked a roast, would chop off both ends of it before cooking it. One day, as she was teaching her daughter how to cook, her daughter asked, “Why cut off the ends?” The mother said, “I don’t know, that’s how my mother taught me.” The courious daughter asked her grandmother. Her grandmother replied, “Because I did not have a pan big enough to fit the roast.”
Simetimes it is good to ask questions about why you believe the things you believe and do the things you do.
By Jesus day, there had been 613 extra traditions added to the law of Moses, so many in fact, Jesus said in Matthew 15:3 they were actually breaking God’s law by following their traditions.
Let us not be ones whom follow along, accepting traditions, but ones whom make an informed decision for ourselves.
Father, show us any area in our life where we are following traditions instead of Your truth. In the name of Jesus, I pray, amen.
