On of the members of our first Church would often say, “Put feet to your prayers.” This person knew that they could pray for Jesus to help, but if they did not do their part, it is possible the prayer would go unanswered.
In 1 Corinthians 10:13 it says, “No temptation has overtaken you but such as is common to man; and God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with each temptation will provide the way of escape also, that you may be able to endure it.”
It is promised that God will provide the way out of an temptation. But YOU have to take it!
Every temptation first comes to us as a thought. You have the choice to either throw the thought out or dwell on it, leading you to fall into temptation.
The key to overcoming temptation, is to dismiss the tempting thought by refusing to think about it and replace it with another, such as singing a song or praising the Father.
“For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war according to the flesh, for the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh, but divinely powerful for the destruction of fortresses. We are destroying speculations and every lofty thing raised up against the knowledge of God, and we are taking every thought captive to the obedience of Christ.” 2 Corinthians 10:3-5
Father, help us to put feet to our prayers, by doing our part. Help us to remember in times of temptation, to take the thought captive and to replace it with praise. Thank You for always giving us a way out! In the name of Jesus, I pray, amen.
