We have all heard of the many injustices done in the name of religious worship and in the early church it was no different. Persecution arises when people, who place themselves under strict rules, feel a need to compel others to do the same. The apostle Paul/Saul was such a person, he was a strict Pharisee, zealous for his cause.
In Acts 8:3 it says of him, “As for Saul, he made havoc of the church, entering every house, and dragging off men and women, committing them to prison.”
He believed he knew the truth and tried to make everyone else follow it. In our freedom it is important that we not become angry and try to force what we think on another, even if it is the truth, but allow the Holy Spirit of God determine how and when He wants to compel their obedience.
Father, help us I pray, to remember that the truth is not for us to beat another into submission, but to bring us closer to you, and help us to realize You have their life in Your hands, and You will bring them to the truth when they are ready to hear. In Jesus name, amen.
