I enjoy drinking unsweetened tea, and quite often when I order it someone accidentally puts a small amount of sweet tea in the bottom of the cup. They don’t realize how that small amount of sweet tea corrupts the entire glass of unsweet. In the Bible sin is sometimes called leaven and like the sweet tea one small amount of sin corrupts the whole body.
The apostle Paul said, while addressing a problem in the early Church, “Your boasting is not good. Do you not know that a little leaven leavens the whole lump of dough?” In the Corinthian church there was a report of immorality. Paul said they had become arrogant, and have not mourned because they continued to allowed this to happen. It was causing the whole church to be affected, just like the small amount of sweet tea in my unsweetened.
Each one of us in our walk with Jesus are given by Him certain areas of our life that He wants changed. It could be in the area of how you speak or treat someone, or even a certain action or desire that He asks you to quit. Regardless of what it is, since He has asked you not to do it and you do it anyway, it is sin. James 4:17 states, “Therefore to him that knows to do good, and does it not, to him it is sin.” Sometimes we view our sin as no big deal, but to God, who knows all things, the sin is big and is corrupting your purity before Him.
If you have ever felt stuck in your walk, it is possible that sin is the reason. Go back in your memory and search for the last thing God told you to do and do it. One thing I say to God on a daily basis is, “Please tell me if there be anything between me and You.” I try to keep a clear conscience before God so He will hear my prayers and I will hear Him speak. “So I strive always to keep my conscience clear before God and man.” Acts 24:16
Father, please tell me if there is anything between me and You. Remind me of the last thing You told me to do and help me to do it. Keep me in your will so You will hear my prayers and help me keep a clear conscience before You. In the name of Jesus I pray, amen.
