Your Decisions Impact Generations

Every decision you make has a consequence that is that passed through each family member, possibly for generations.

King David made some unwise decisions, one was his choice to have multiple wives. David knew God’s mandate for Israel’s kings, found in Deuteronomy 17:14-20, “Neither shall he multiply wives for himself, lest his heart turn away…” but he ended up having at the least eight wives. Years later, his son Solomon also loved many wives, he had 700 wives and 300 concubines.

1 Kings 11:4 states, “For it came about when Solomon was old, his wives turned his heart away after god’s; and his heart was not wholly devoted to the Lord his God.”

If David would have made the wise choice of not multiplying wives, Solomon possibly would not have either. Today the adding of many spouses or god’s is not applicable, but other unwise decisions are, such as allowing drugs, alcohol or questionable T.V. or movies.

The devil twists each seemingly harmless decision you make now into a more offensive one for the next generation, possibly causing drug addiction, alcoholics or porn addicts.

Even if you have made questionable decisions in the past it is not too late, you can change a families history by admitting to God that it is sin and telling the children up-front you were wrong and this is what God says in his word about it.

Looking at all of the kings listed of Israel, many of them did evil in the sight of the Lord, but of the few who did right, their mother was also listed, being honored as the one who taught their child the ways of the Lord.

Father, forgive us where we have allowed questionable things to enter our homes and help us to do what is right in your sight, teaching future generations the way of the Lord. In Jesus name, amen.
