As children of God, because we are being conformed into the image of Jesus Christ, we are ever-changing. As a result we might notice in a relationship it can seem as if you are going in a different direction than you were at first. It might even look like you have nothing in common. This brings about the need to stay on alert for the devil’s attacks. Whenever we start to think thoughts and ideas that are in opposition to the word of God, we know that it is the devil at work trying to separate us. In a marriage, whenever we start to think we have irreconcilable differences, that is the devil tempting us.
In Mark 10:1-9, Jesus was answering a question about divorce and said, they were allowed to divorce only because of the hardness of their heart. Then in verse 9 Jesus said, “What therefore God has joined together, let no man separate.”
Notice Jesus said they were only allowed to divorce because they had hard hearts. In other words because they refused to forgive the offenses of the other one, they were allowed to divorce. But that’s not how God wants it, He wants us to forgive, even if it’s adultery, and look to Him for help in reconciliation.
Father, help us not to be tempted with the thought of irreconcilable differences. Let us look to You, to help us forgive, letting no man separate us. In the name of Jesus I pray, amen.
