Statistics show 80% of Americans believe in God. Why then are we not turning the world upside down as the disciples did in the book of Acts? Because there is a vast difference between belief and faith, and that difference is trust.
To only believe is to do no more than the demons. In Matthew 8:29, when Jesus spoke with demons who were terrorizing the area, the demons cried out, “What do we have to do with you, Son of God?” Their statement shows us they believed Jesus was the Son of God, but it also shows us they didn’t want to have any dealings with Him. The person who believes Jesus is the Son of God and does not want Jesus to have any input into their life, does not have faith but only belief, and that belief is no more than the demons. The kind of belief Jesus is looking for, is a belief that allows Him to have complete control of your life, trusting Him fully, which changes your belief into faith and then into a witness to the world around you.
How do I know if I only believe or if I have faith? By your actions. The first thing Jesus asked me to do when I started trusting Him was to watch my mouth, telling me to stop the filthy language. Right then I had a choice to make, was I going to trust that Jesus was leading me down the right path or continue in the same manner? I did change my language and the witness it left at my workplace was amazing. Each decision you make to follow the promptings of the Holy Spirit changes you into the image of Jesus, leading to more faith, which in turn changes the world around you.
“The one who says he abides in Him ought himself to walk in the same manner as He walked.” 1 John 2:6
Father, help us to have the desire to build our faith by following your promptings to help change the world around us. In Jesus name, Amen.
