Actions That Teach The Truth

Being a transit bus driver I sit at a lot of red signal lights and one thing I have noticed is people like to play follow the leader. While sitting at a signal light, if the light for the turning lane turns green, many people follow them but go straight through their red signal light. These people are following others instead of making their own decisions and the consequences can be deadly. Following others can also be deadly to our faith. The longer we follow God the more He asks us to change, and we soon find when our old friends come by it is difficult to remain changed.

Peter and Barnabas had the same problem. In Galatians 2:11-16, Paul explains that they used to eat with the Gentiles, but when the Jews came around they backed off in fear and did not eat with the Gentiles anymore. They were guilty of following other people. In verse 14, Paul even says that “They were not straightforward about the truth of the gospel.” By their actions they were not teaching the truth of the word of God.

When our old friends come around and we start to curse, drink or whatever, we do not teach the truth of the word of God, but a lie, saying that it doesn’t matter how we live. By our actions we can either teach people the truth or teach them that there is no reason to be a Christian.

Father, help us I pray to be strong and stand for the things that you’ve taught us and not to follow after the crowd. In Jesus name, amen.
