I have noticed there are two ways to forgive someone. The first is when you say I forgive because it is expected of you to do so and the second is when we forgive from the heart.
To only say to someone,”I forgive you,” is not true forgiveness from your heart. To forgive from your heart is when you forgive and not hold the offense against them later. In other words, to forget they ever did it.
Although it is hard to do, a great way to achieve this is when you remember the hurtful event say to yourself, “You already forgave them, you cannot hold it against them any longer.”
This is true forgiveness demonstrate by God. In Hebrews 8:12 God says, “For I will be merciful to their iniquities, and I will remember their sins no more.”
Father, help us to be like You remembering their sins against us no more. In the name of Jesus I pray, amen
