Become The Best In Your Employment For God

In 1 Samuel 17, long before David became king of Israel, we read the account of his killing the giant Goliath.

At this time, David, was the family shepherd, but the family did not look highly on this job. Eliab, David’s oldest brother, said sarcastically, in verse 28, “…With whom have you left those few sheep in the wilderness?”

But David dismissed the families negative thoughts becoming so serious about the job that he protected the sheep with his own life.

In verse 34, he says to Saul, “Your servant used to keep his father’s sheep, and when a lion or a bear came and took a lamb out of the flock, I went out after it and struck it, and delivered the lamb from its mouth; and when it arose against me, I caught it by its beard, and struck and killed it. Your servant has killed both lion and bear; and this uncircumcised Philistine will be like one of them, seeing he has defied the armies of the living God.”

David could have sat half heartedly, in sorrow of his lowly job, but instead he chose to become the best. He learned to use the sling shot with skill giving him the expertise to slay the giant. No matter how menial your job seems, do it for the Lord. He will use your experience to fulfill His purpose in your life.

Father, help me to see my job as important for You, teach me all that I need to know, so I will be ready when You call on me. In the name of Jesus, I pray, amen.
