God, in His great wisdom has recorded in the Bible the life stories of many people. One reason for this is for us to learn from their life lessons. The first biblical life lesson we can learn comes from Adam. In Genesis 2:16-17, after God placed him in the garden, He gave him one specific rule to follow.
“And the Lord God commanded the man saying, “From any tree of the garden you may eat freely; but from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat…”
In your walk with God you will discover He gives you specific rules for you personally to follow. Obeying these rules are meant to deepen your spiritual life with Him and teach you to trust Him. Not following these will often times break your fellowship with Him.
Sometimes these directives are for you only and when you try to bring another along they might say it is silly or unreasonable and try to talk you out of following it.
For instance, say you grew up with having a glass of wine with dinner. One day while in prayer the Holy Spirit says, “Do not drink any more alcoholic drinks, for Me.” Wanting to be obedient you say, “Yes Lord.” And proceed to tell your spouce, but they do not agree and tell you it’s crazy.
In Adams case, God gave him the rule of not eating of the tree, but he allowed his wife talk him out of following God’s command, which caused him to lose fellowship with God.
The life Lesson is; Do not let anyone change your mind about what you and God have agreed on.
Romans 14:22, “Do you have faith? Have it to yourself before God. Happy is he who does not condemn himself in what he approves.”
Father, help me to make a stand for holiness, by holding firm to the commands You have given me. In Jesus name I pray, amen.
