Everyone is tempted everyday, so why do some handle temptation better than others? Those who conquer temptation have a made up mind. Yes they are still tempted, but their success is due to making up their mind FIRST.
David, was a person who had a made up mind. In Psalm 101:3-4 he says, “I will set no worthless thing before my eyes; I hate the work of those who fall away; it shall not fasten its grip on me. A perverse heart shall depart from me; I will know no evil.” David had a made up mind!
As we read this psalm we can’t help but think, a lot of good his made up mind did him when he saw Bathsheba on the roof! David found himself tempted by what he saw and he did not turn his head as he had previously determined, but kept thinking about it. Because he kept thinking about it instead of rejecting the thoughts and remembering his declaration, it brought him closer to the temptation causing him to fall into it. If David would have kept his made up mind he would not have fallen into sin.
Father, help us to have a made up mind. Give us eyes to see the temptation quickly and the strength to turn our head. In Jesus name, amen.
