We’ve all seen it before and maybe even experienced it with our parents or in our own life, one leaving a spouse for a younger version and a faster car. It seems the devil tempts every middle age person with this same temptation, it has happened so many times it even has been named the mid-life crisis. This temptation might be new for us just reaching middle-age, but for the devil it is the same old thing he’s been doing from the beginning. This temptation is an attack of our emotions, saying to us, God is holding something back, keeping you from something better.
In Genesis 3:5, he planted in Eve’s mind the question, “Is God keeping me from something better?” by saying, “For God knows that in the day you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.”
It is the devils goal to kill, steal and destroy and every day he is tempting someone to destroy many years of marriage for the lie that God is keeping you from a better life. We must trust and believe the spouse God gave you many years ago is the one God intended you to have and also the best person for you!
Father, help us to fight the temptation to think there is something else better than what you have given us, help us keep true to our vows, given in your presence. In Jesus name, amen.
