One of the most misquoted scriptures of our day…”Money is the root of all evil.”

The scripture has been erroneously quoted for so long many are under the impression that God thinks money is evil. This thinking is contrary to Scripture, which says in 1 Timothy 4:4-5, “For  everything created by God is good, and nothing is to be rejected, if it is received with gratitude, for it is sanctified by means of the word of God and prayer.”

In 1 Timothy 6:10, when Timothy speaks about money, he actually states, “For the love of money is a root of all sorts of evil, and some by longing for it have wandered away from the faith, and pierced themselves with many a pang.” Timothy is not saying money is evil, but saying the love of money is evil. He even explains further, people lose their faith, causing themselves many problems.

Anytime the love of something is more then the love for God, faith is lost. One sure way to know if you love money more than God, is to think about tithing. What is your reaction? Does the thought of tithing bring fear into your life? Do you think, “I don’t have enough money to tithe?” All of these are symptoms that you’re trusting in money rather than trusting in God.

Father, please show me where I stand as far as money is concerned. Help me to trust you in all areas of my life. In the name of Jesus, amen.
