What Is Your Motive?

When I first believed in Jesus for salvation, my motivation was what I call, fire insurance, I did not want to go to hell. In the Old Testament, the people followed God for a much different reason. They followed God because He is a living God, not one made of wood or stone. Jeremiah 10:10 states, “But the LORD is the true God; He is the living God and the everlasting King.” Their motivation was the fact that God is a living God, one that brings life, one that hears prayers and answers them, and one that helps His people.

After many years of following God, my motivation has changed. I no longer see my salvation as fire insurance, but one of following the God who has the words of life! I feel like Peter, when he said in John 6:68-69, “Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life. Also we have come to believe and know that You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.”

What is your motivation?

Father, thank you for being a God who cares about His people. Test our motives and show us why we serve you. In the name of Jesus, amen.
