What happens when you start to play with snakes? You get bit!
In August 2015, an 18-year-old Floridian was bitten by a cottonmouth snake when he tried to kiss it. It was reported that he had captured the snake several days before and was holding it in a pillowcase. He would occasionally take the snake out and kiss it. Well the day came when the snake decided to kiss back!
This is a real life example of what it looks like every time you play around with sin. Sin seem so harmless at first but later it causes death, death in the form of lost relationships with God and others.
James 1:15 States, “Then desire when it has conceived gives birth to sin, and sin when it is fully grown brings forth death.”
Sin has a progression. It starts with an evil desire, the desire then becomes out of control and becomes sin. Once the sin is formed, it brings death, the focus is now on chasing the desire rather than on God and the people in your life. The best thing to do when tempted with a desire, is to leave it alone. Don’t pick it up and carry it around in a pillowcase, taking it out occasionally to play with it.
Father, help us in our struggle against sin. Give us the strength to walk away and to put our focus back on You. In the name of Jesus, I pray, amen!
