Many of us spend much of our lives confused, wondering what God’s will is for our lives. We are afraid of doing wrong or making the wrong decision, thinking if I do wrong God won’t talk to me anymore. But the gracious love of God is displayed all over the Bible showing us that even if we do the wrong thing, He is understanding, loving and forgiving. Peter went so far as to lie to others about knowing Jesus, but when Jesus rose from the dead, He said, go, get the disciples and Peter, showing us His great, forgiving nature. God wants us to walk with Him in peace, not in fear of doing wrong.
We tend to believe Gods will is always a supernatural, super exciting time, and sometimes it is. Sometimes He parts the Red Sea, sometimes He heals the blind, sometimes He rescues out of the fire, but most of the time He works in the everyday events in our lives. When we read in the Bible all the wonderful stories about God working through people, we think about only that specific time in their life. But God was at work many years before and after the great event.
Think about Noah. He had great faith to build an ark when rain had never been seen. How did he get that great faith? By living a good, clean, righteous life before God. In Noah’s time the whole world was corrupt in their living and thinking. But Noah found favor with God. Genesis 6:8-9 says “But Noah found favor in the eyes of the Lord…Noah was a righteous man, blameless in His time; Noah walked with God.” Noah was 600 years old when the flood came and up until then he led a normal life, in a corrupt world, pleasing God, and walking in righteousness.
Much of the time God is working on us, changing us day by day, into the image of His Son, the Lord Jesus Christ, so that when the super natural, super exciting event does come, we are ready, with the right mind set, with the right faith, and with the knowledge that it is God at work. I don’t know what great things God will have you do, but I do know that we all are to walk with Him in our everyday life with righteousness in this corrupt world. If you practice living in this way, you will never have to wonder, “Am I in God’s will?” you are! When the time comes for you to do the super exciting work for God, you will know!
Father, help us live in this corrupt world with righteousness, being a witness of Your great love and peace in our lives. In the name of Jesus, amen
