Have you ever been discouraged with your family or friends, when trying to witness to them or tell them a great Biblical truth, they act as if you are not qualified to speak a word in their life?
Jesus experienced the same thing! In Mark 6:1-6, He went to his hometown to preach and this is what the people said:
“And he went out from there, He came into His home town; and His disciples followed him. And when the Sabbath had come He began to teach in the synagogue; and the many listeners were astonished, saying, ‘Where did this man get these things, and what is this wisdom given to Him, and such miracles as these preformed by His hands?’ ‘Is this not the carpenter, the son of Mary, and brother of James, and Joses, and Judas, and Simon? Are not his sisters here with us?’ And they took offense at Him. And Jesus said to them, ‘A prophet is not without honor except in his hometown and among his own relatives and in his own household.’ And He could do no miracle there except that He laid His hands on upon a few sick people and healed them. And He marveled because of their unbelief. Then He went about the villages in a circuit, teaching.”
These people were misunderstanding of the works of God. They thought God wouldn’t work through a regular person. A carpenter or one who lives among them.
What was Jesus reaction? In verse 6 it says, “And He wondered at their unbelief. And was going around the villages teaching.”
When Jesus saw their unbelief, He did not get angry with them, He did not plead with them, He wondered and went somewhere else to teach.
We must be careful not to try and push our beliefs on our friends and family if they are not receptive to the message. There are many other people who will hear you, that perhaps would not hear their loved ones.
God loves your family member very much and will send someone else that will be received by them.
Father, help us to not be frustrated when our friends and family do not listen. Help us also to remember that You love them and You will make sure someone else speaks in their life. In Jesus name I pray, amen.
